Palin in 2012!

I haven’t written much about Governor Palin because I am in law school and Roger Traynor’s opinions create more cognitive dissonance than this man can handle. Now that she’s officially not been chosen for kickball, I have a few words. First of all: good job, McCain. With your history of being clear and forceful even when it goes against the party line, there was a real danger that this election could come down to different yet respectable policy differences forcing Americans to look up from our coloring books and engage with people who have different points of view. Your choice of Palin showed that this was a risk too great for even a mavericky maverick. Good job.

Some people now talk of Palin as the new standard bearer of the Republican party. I think this is fitting. Rather than reaching out beyond the lunatic theological fringe, it makes perfect sense to hunker down and pretend that what this country yearns for are absolute restrictions on reproductive freedom, attacks on the Bill of Rights, and displays of proud ignorance. I say, keep hunkering. Show us how unserious you really are about leading this country. The distilled remains of the GOP will serve as a political sideshow until a realization occurs that eschatology doesn’t provide a sound basis for public policy.
